A session to start with

Before the Money Leaves

Recognizing and responding to elder financial exploitation

A member wants a large cash withdrawal, insists the reason is private, and says someone will collect the money. What do you ask? When do you involve a supervisor? What details should be documented?

Use a fictional scenario like this to practice decisions together, then discuss the response with Philip. Adapt the session for frontline staff, managers, or a mixed team.

Put existing training into practice.

Build on the education your staff already receive with a live session tailored to your institution. Agree on the audience, scenarios, materials, and follow-up needs in advance. Virtual sessions are available for Tennessee and Mississippi credit unions; workshops and ongoing training can be scoped to your organization.

Retired U.S. Postal Inspector
Fraud-prevention consultant & speaker

That background shapes how he teaches: examine the sequence of events, ask useful questions, organize the facts, and coordinate the next step. His elder-justice work adds a focus on the people affected, the pressures they face, and the organizations positioned to help.

Elder justice in action / June 2025–October 2026

From investigation
to statewide prevention.

Since June 2025, Philip Gentile has applied 21 years of federal investigative experience to elder-crime prevention through his work with ETHRA/ETAAAD and his leadership of the Tennessee Elder Justice Coalition. The goal is practical: help people recognize criminal pressure, verify independently, and reach the right support before money leaves.

As Senior Fraud Consultant with the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency / East Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability (ETHRA/ETAAAD) and Chair of TNEJC, Philip connects aging services, law enforcement, financial institutions, and community partners. These collaborative efforts inform the education and consulting he offers through GSC.

Public Chapter 766 took effect July 1, 2026. His outreach explains the law and reinforces the need to recognize criminal payment demands involving cash, wires, gift cards, and online cryptocurrency transfers.

Coalition leadership & partner coordination

Through TNEJC, Philip helps bring partners together around elder-crime prevention, public education, and coordinated responses. Coalition meetings and outreach connect investigative experience with the work of aging-services professionals, community organizations, and law enforcement across Tennessee.

Check Before You Act

Philip leads development of this TNEJC public-education initiative, giving people a place to pause when a call, message, or request feels suspicious. Plain-English guidance, QR materials, and resource information reinforce a consistent message: Stop. Verify. Report.

Weekly updates & practical resources

Professional and senior-center updates translate emerging criminal tactics, public resources, and coalition initiatives into useful information. Supporting materials include phone and identity-protection guidance, conference handouts, and prevention messages that partners can share with the people they serve.

Presentations & frontline education

Philip develops and delivers sessions for older adults, community leaders, aging-services professionals, and financial-sector audiences. His approach connects real investigative patterns with respectful questions, opportunities to interrupt a payment, and practical steps for reporting and referral.

PSAs, radio & television outreach

Short public-service videos and radio and television outreach make prevention guidance accessible beyond a meeting room. Topics include impersonation, isolation, criminal payment pressure, identity protection, and timely elder-justice initiatives. The recurring call to action is simple: Stop. Verify. Report.

Recognizing law-enforcement work

Philip helps organize TNEJC recognition of investigators and officers whose work protects older adults and holds criminals accountable. Recognition efforts have highlighted FBI Special Agent Matthew Short and Gatlinburg Police Department personnel, connecting public appreciation with lessons about financial exploitation and the value of coordinated responses.
